SOFT 17 BLACKJACK TERMS DICTIONARY
|
SOFT 17 In the game of Blackjack, the term soft 17 means a hand that totals 17 points - but one that also uses an ace within it that is being counted as 11 points instead of 1 point. The term "soft 17" is mostly heard in regard to blackjack dealers. While blackjack players are allowed many options, blackjack dealers within a casino must follow very strict rules of play. One of the questions regarding the dealer's rules is whether or not the dealer must hit a soft 17. If the dealer must hit a soft 17 but stand on a hard 17 or a soft 18 that is often an advantage for a casino. Note that the term "soft" in blackjack just means that an ace in the hand is being counted as 11 points.
