Issue: If are trying to use your Corel
Photo Paint 8 with a Windows XP Operating system and are having
problems, then this section is for you. In the past we had had
no problems using our Corel Photo Paint 8 program in either Windows
98 nor Windows 2000. However, we had a major problem in trying to
use it for Windows XP. Symptoms: The symptoms may
vary with another computer. Our particular problem in using
Photo-Paint 8 with windows XP was on file commands such as open,
save, export or import. The XP computer, unlike previous
formats, would simply hang up and freeze for the program. This
meant that the only way out was the "Ctrl-shift-delete" option (all
three buttons at once) to bring up a control screen and kill Photo
Paint 8 and then to restart it. And yes, any work that was not
saved was lost.
The Fix: Now this fix did work in our case. We
of course cannot be sure that it will work in every instance, but we
do believe that it is worth a try. In our case it took a very
bad problem to zero problems. How does the fix work?
Windows XP carries the ability to run programs in previous operating
modes. In our case, we selected Windows 2000 mode since that
worked for us.
To try this fix, go to the "start" button on your XP computer.
Look under "programs" or "All Programs" and find the Photo Paint 8
Program. Right mouse click on "Photo Paint 8" and then look
downwards and click "properties". When in Photo Paint 8
properties, click the "compatibility" tab. Then click and put
a check in the box near the top of "Run this program in
compatibility mode for". In the drop down box below, click the
right arrow and then find the windows operating system that you
prefer running it in. We had picked Windows 2000 since we had
never seen irregularities running Photo Paint 8 with that Operating
System. Then click "OK" at the bottom.
In our case, this fixed the problem totally. We hope that
it works for you also.
