SUCCESS AND HARD WORK
I had almost left this top out of the book.
But then I realized that without hard work, none of the thinking and other
strategies may work at all. So I then made it an early chapter.
I imagine that some people have achieved
their idea of success without hard work. But I suspect even for some
of those, it might not remain a lasting success. Sometimes people
might hire or promote their friends or appoint them to important
seeming jobs. But some days, some of that catches up to them. And
then there are smart alecks like me who purposely look for people
who "got things too easy," and then wonder if they are any good at
all. There is often no real substitute for hard work and becoming
good in your basic profession(s).
Yes, this book
discusses many strategies on how to deal with opportunities offered,
how to learn from others, and how to keep it all perhaps simple and
logical. But for most of us humans, none of that opportunity is
likely to happen at all unless we are first very good at what we do
... and our success is far more than just talk.. but also results.
During my experience I have often learned that getting good at
something also can take a lot of dedication and hours - hard work in
other words - before you might see the results you wish. Yes, I had
many opportunities offered to me. But would any of those had
happened if people like you and me had first not stood out from the
pack.... at least a little... in a positive way? And also, would it
have lasted if it were not real, and therefore based on hard work
and not just conversation, or positioning?

Book: Strategies I Learned Becoming A VP
During my career, back when Motorola was a huge
thriving company with I heard some 150,000 world wide
employees, I went there from perhaps being the lowest paid
engineer on staff to becoming a Vice President. And that was
not an honorary title only, but a Vice President in charge
of Manufacturing or Engineering of both for a large division
with perhaps yearly a billion US dollars in sales. How did I
do that? Well, I realized I was not born with this
knowledge. I learned it from many people along the way, and
tried to decide what information I was being told made sense
and what information did not make sense. And I learned from
some people.. who I thought were great in business. And so
what is the point of this book? My goal is simply to pass on
business information to others as best as I could, in order
to help others who may come after me. Yes, times change, and
some may have to modify the strategies here as the world
continues to change. But logic does not change. And you
might just find this book a good help at a reasonable price. |
